(Christiaan Olwagen, 2018, South Africa, 127 Minutes)
About the Film
Christiaan Olwagen, who was selected for the 2018 Berlinale Talent Campus, adapts the classic play, The Seagull, by Anton Chekhov, to film and places it in South Africa in the 1990’s, almost one hundred years after it was written. Performed in Afrikaans, with English subtitles, the characters are easily recognised, yet appear as if they were written for this new setting.
Clients Goals: The Producers had a very specific goal in mind which was to launch the film in Russia as the film is based on an infamous Russian play.
Results Achieved by The Film Festival Doctor
The Film Festival Doctor team achieved the client’s goal as DIE SEEMEEU screened in competition and had its world premiere at Russia’s biggest film festival – the Moscow International Film Festival where it also received a standing ovation.
